About Davey
Hi! My name is Davey and I am a professional musician, songwriter, and educator. I received my Bachelor's of Music in Classical Voice Performance from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music and my Master's of Music in Contemporary Improvisation on mandolin and voice from the New England Conservatory.
I have many years experience teaching mandolin, voice, guitar, banjo, ukulele, improvisation, theory, and composition.
I love helping musicians improve their playing no matter if they are beginners, advanced, or professional. As we work together, I help my students identify tangible goals for their music which helps make lessons seem less daunting. We may want to sound like this particular player or be able to play a very technical tune at 200 beat per minute, but if we set incremental goals together, it is much more rewarding and easier to track progress. As lessons progress, I tailor our lesson plan for each individual.

Music has an incredibly power to unite people and bring them joy. I especially love folk music as I have found it to be a welcoming and inclusive community. It is so exciting to sit in a bluegrass jam and see that players are accepted if they only know three chords or a guitar or 12,000 tunes on the fiddle.
I loved playing music and found that I enjoyed teaching just as much. I first started teaching guitar lessons when I was a teenage in high school.
I received a Master's of Music in Contemporary Improvisation from the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. My Bacherlor's of Music is in Classical Voice Performance from Lawrence University's Conservatory of Music in Appleton, WI. During my time at NEC I was also the Graduate Assitant for Wellness Programming, which gave me invaluble experience helping musicians establish healthy music making habits.

The first thing I like to learn about my new students is what inspires them? What are some tangible things they would like to work on such as repertoire. I think it is essential to address playing technique early in music lessons to help students establish happy and healthy playing habits to avoid injury and unneccessay strain.
I have worked with young students in grade school through to folks in their retirement. I'm happy teaching beginners and advanced players. Even the most accomplished musical artists can benefit from another player's perspective.
It's great to be openminded when trying to improve at something as vulnerable as making music. I've found that my most significant breakthroughs in playing have come from going outside of my music comfort zone.
I'm really proud of my duo the Boston Imposters first full album. It is almost finished and I truly believe that it is special! Can't wait to share it with others when it is done.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
No musical topic or technique is off limits. Sometimes we can feel small for not knowing something that seems to be "common knowledge" among our friends or peers. Even if something seems obvious to one musician, it can be hard to grasp for another.

Details
I charge $60 an hour and $30 for half an hour. If I have to drive a fair distance to teach the lesson I add $5.
