About Alex

My name is Alex and I've been teaching music for 10+ years (primarily drums, but also piano, music theory, production and audio engineering). I get excited about teaching students how to learn and practice on their own, without a teacher, in very much a "teach-to-fish" kind of way.

A typical year of drum lessons with me will include transcribing and playing the student's favorite songs, learning, developing GREAT time, recording the student's play-throughs and performances, how to read music as well as more realistic useds for music theory and writing.

About the lesson

Students will learn their first drum groove on day 1, as well as how to hold sticks and an instroduction to reading music. For beginnings Months 1-2 is typically focussed on basics, and basic drum grooves. Months 3-4 is typically the students first song on drum kit. After learning and practicing the song(s), they have an option to record a perormance, which is usually around the 6-month mark. Parents and student and a copy! As the student and I get to know each other each lesson, the lessons naturally get tailored more an more to each individual student rather than following a strict curriculum.
