About Amelia

Amelia Has several degrees in Music performance as well as education. Amelia is also certified through several states to teach Music k-12 in a classroom. She has extensive training for teaching online and understand that in a crazy time it is important to have something to focus on. Music lessons are a good way to stimulate the brain in a differnt way. Some could argue that playing an intument or singing could be almost like playing a sport because your body is doing multiple things at one time. I can confidently say that Music is something that anyone can learn. Piano is never as hard as it looks in the beginng.

Teaching has always been a passion. Amelia strives to share experiences through teaching a variety of subjects in, and outside of the traditional classroom setting. Her teaching philosophy is based on the thought that humans can learn in a variety of ways but learn best when they are interested in the subject matter. However, there will always be students in a classroom that are interested in a certain subject. Amelia is continuously searching for new ways to expose students to music in different avenues to show how music involves other subject areas. Including but not limited to; history, logic, problem solving, math, languages, science, health wellness, understanding, communication and collaboration skills, writing and composition, and comprehension. Amelia believes that music can reach students of all strengths. The athletes can move as a part of a marching band. The composers can write music with prompts of creating pieces for specific instrumentation. The scientists can work at the recording studios and mix the recordings that the artists perform. There is a need for all of these subjects in a regular education classroom, which is why Amelia continues to fight to keep the arts in the classroom.

I started teaching on the side when I was looking for a full time positon after graduation. When the pandemic hit, I was nervous to go into the schools at that time because of personal health issues. Now, I have a number of students in 2 different states all from teaching online through multiple studios.

About the lesson

Q:What materials would I need to take lessons?

A: I would suggest a keyboard or a piano. There is no reason to buy a brand new piano in the beginning. There are pleantly of cheaper options for beginners. I would switch between a few different book series and pick the best one for each student's learning type. AND PENCILS ONLY! :)

Q:How much do I need to practice?

A:In an ideal world, a music student would practice every day. However, that is not always possible with adult learners or kids in afterschool activites. I try to suggest getting some time in everyday, even if it is only 5 minutes. I will be able to tell if the student is able to put the effort in or not.

I have worked with younger and older beginners. My youngest being 5 and my oldest being in college.

Shopping for teachers is important. You want to make sure that you are enjoying the time spent with your teacher otherwise you will never want to devote time to the instrument and therefore get frustrated because the teacher is asking something of you that you do not want to give. Music is a very raw art that exposes emotions more then people realize. I have had teachers that I loves and hated. it is important for there to be an understanding between teacher and student since these lessons are all one on one.
