About Keith

Recipient of many national awards as well as the Photographic Society Of America Full Tuition Scholarship to Rochecter Instittue of Technology where I first studied the chemistry and physics of photography.

I then studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and later graduated from the San Francisco University of Art with a Bachelor's Degree in Photography.

I was an advertising, fashion & editorial and portrait photogrpaher for many years before becoming a TV commerical producer and then feature film producer and director.

I have been teaching the fundamentals of photography and portaiture for twenty years because I love teaching and I love creating imagry.

Engaging in an artitistic process involced intution and emotional sensabilitites moderated by your intellect. I enjoy this awarness of a robust, broad application of my energy and focus.

I decided to return to academic studies at the ripe age of forty-five (my personal expression of a mid-life crisis) attending U.C.L.A. where I earned dual degrees in both Philosophy and Socio-Anthrpology (speacializing in gender & women's studies) graduating with college honors in both degrees.

While there for three years I was asked by the academic tutotial department if I would consider becoming a tutor. At first I resisted, then accepted, and soon found a new passion.

I have atended three different art schools, Rochester Institte of Technology, San Francisco Institute of Art and the San Francisco Universty of Art.

Each school had a very different approach and methid of teaching with critically different interests in the subject matter explored.

I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Photography from the San Francisco Universty of Art.

I have been teaching the fundamentals of photography, portait lighting and general attributes of lighting style and technique to beginners and intermediate level students for over twenty years.

About the lesson

Listening to a student speak about their interest and goals. Engaging them in a cinversation about how looking at images makes them feel. Determining what level of technical capability they already possess in order to know precisely where to attach to their curiosity and not force redudnant information on them. Always looking for the right way to plant seeds of inspiration and excitement. Then discovering a teaching plan that is customized to that unique person.

I was first tasked with working specifically with underprivileged syudents who barely made in to UCLA and were at risk of losing their admission to the school.

This presented for me an opportunity to invision how to contextulaize concepts that were not being embraced by the students in their main curriculum and to find a way to communicate an abstarct concept to someone who had a narrow range of frames of referrence to support the topic.

I thrived in this challenge and discovered my own keen ability to diseminate information in a clear and concise manner. Bringing that clarity to others bring me joy.

Many people get caught up in the technical aspect of photography (math, physics, lighting, chemistry, digital computer application, etc.) ... DON'T!

Photography is first and foremost the queit art of learning how to see the world, rather than look at the world. This is easier to do than you might think and once seeing begins the technical stuff is secondary, no longer mysterious and easy.

I now have a consulting business where I provide the same type of clarity, but on a much higher scale and within a specifc industry and business arena.

Just be open and honest about what you like and don't like and give a little thought to what attracted you to pick up a camera the first time and how seeing the first image made you feel.

I will teach one on one or in groups as desired by the student.Group pricing is far more affordable for many people and is particularly efficient in teaching beginners the fundamentals.

One on One for beginners is $75.00/Hr. Group for Beginners is $150.00/Hr. (with three to five students) One One One for intermediate $100.00/Hr. Group Intermediate is $200.00/Hr. (with three to five students)
