About Mike

I teach “one on one” private art lessons for 1.5 - 2 hrs. I’ve enjoyed working with a range of levels from 8 year old special need students to 80 year old senior students. The most gratifying part is to observe and guide the student in developing their own visual language and have the confidence to create what their heart desires.

I’ve been teaching for over 11 years and developing a method for teaching that meets the needs of the individual students.

I’ve reviewed numerous awards from the Getty, San Pedro Arts Council, LA ArtCore, Baltimore, AARP and City of LA.

I started teaching swimming to little kids then I started teaching privately in NYC to a IT tech expert who gained a lot from practicing something creative every week. It was a nice break from my usual practice in my studio to get outside of myself and help inspire others, bring healing through the arts and tap into the creativity within.

I’ve since taught an elderly famous Hollywood television screenwriter and taught her to recreate her favorite masters paintings. The painting practice helped her exercise her brain and muscle function. And appreciate beauty.

I’m a graduate of Art Center College of Design making art for over 20 years and been teaching for over 10 years. I have worked with elderly, high school students in a classroom context, elementary school students, special needs, conducted workshops in Lincoln High School and Ojai Valley School.

I’ve developed multiple classroom projects which teach and involve creative concept building through arts. Participated in LA Art Show couple years and currently exhibiting internationally.

About the lesson

I like to first see what skill level the student is at and test to see what their strengths and weaknesses are. Sometimes I would collaborate with the student and create something together to build confidence or engage that student on a creative level... expanding further than personal limitations one sets for themselves which always results in an element of surprise and creative satisfaction for me and the student.

Ask students to make creative decisions based on choices I provide, focusing on developing creative thinking skills and ability. Learning to take ownership and responsibility for what they create while developing skills needed one step at a time.

Think about what you like to ideally make, start dreaming and imagine it. Work with the instructor who can help you get there.
