About Barry

I've been a working photographer for over 40 years, photographing professional tennis at events such as The U.S. Open, Wimbledon,The Italian Open, WCT and Virginia Slims for a variety of Magazines (Sport, Sports Illustrated, Tennis, World Tennis and Raquet Canada). I also covered Golfing events, The U. S. Open, The British Open, The Walker Cup, The Players Championship for many Magazines and I worked as team photographer for the New York Giants from 1976 to 1978.

I owned a portrait studio.

I studied photography at the Brooks Institute of Photography and have worked in a number of different countries covering a variety of interesting events and a wide variety of interesting people. I have photographed 5 presidents, the demonstrations in Tiennamen Square, innumerable other sporting events, as well as touring concerts for Bob Marley and the Wailers, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan.

My education as well as my experiences have given me an interesting outlook into many worlds that I never would have known if not for my photography.

Capturing interesting moments in time and producing insightful photographs has made an interesting half century for me. It's one thing to read about an event, and it's entirely different to be a part of it and capture some of that in a photograph. It has made me feel like a part of the history that has occured.

Taking a portrait of somebody, that they really appreciate, seeing the happiness in their face as well as the happiness shared by their family and friends has been one of the driving forces behind my interest in photographing people.

A friend introduced me to a mutual acquaintance who had asked him about photography lessons. We spoke for a while about what the student wanted to achieve. By the end of our discussion, I was satisfied that the goals were achievable, so we laid out a plan of attack and began working together. The venture turned out profitably for the two of us and I have been teaching on a limited basis ever since.

I'm a graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography. I've photographed professional sports for over 40 years. I've covered events such as Wimbledon, U. S. Open, Grand Prix Racing, Pro Football (team photographer for the N. Y. Giants)for a variety of local, national and international magazines.

About the lesson

I like to meet the prospective student and discuss their specific wants and desires and discuss the probabilities of whether or not their goals are achievable. If I feel there is a likelyhood of success and we can agree upon a course of action, we can arrange times to meet and work toward the students goals.

I have had mostly adults as students. They come from all walks of life and seem to have the same desires. Photography has interested them for a while and they decided that it was finally time to learn more about it. They have mostly been professionals in a field, unrelated to photography, and photography has long been a hobby.

Look at their work and if you like what you see, they are probably capable of teaching you how they accomplished what they did.
