About Julie
I began studying piano at the age of seven and continued lessons for many years. Since then, music has remained a lifelong passion, and I enjoy listening to and playing music from a wide variety of genres.
There is great satisfaction in knowing that I have found my perfect niche as a piano teacher. Teaching comes naturally to me, and I genuinely enjoy every minute of helping students discover and develop their musical abilities.
My goal is to teach students not only how to play the piano, but also how to read music, understand music theory, and develop the fundamental techniques necessary to perform pieces accurately and musically. At the same time, I believe it is important to encourage creativity and individual expression, allowing students to develop their own musical interpretation as they grow.
I specialize in working with young beginners, though I also teach intermediate-level teenagers and adult students. Patience is one of my greatest strengths as a teacher, and I incorporate fun, engaging materials that help students learn at their own pace while maintaining focus and enthusiasm.
I also believe that parental involvement plays an important role in a child's success. I send home small assignments and practice goals so parents can stay actively involved in their child's musical journey. Maintaining open communication with families is important to me, and I enjoy building relationships with parents while keeping them informed about their child's progress and achievements.
Watching students gain confidence, develop their skills, and discover the joy of music is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
I started teaching beginners when I was a Senior in high school. THAT was quite some time ago.
Many years of playing and lessons have prepared me for this particular stage in my life. I do like to teach beginners to intermediates. My youngest student right now is 4-1/2 yrs old, and what a delight! My oldest is in her 70's and enjoys her lessons which have helped to refresh her skills after many years of not playing. I take great joy in teaching the teens and adults as well.

I offer an initial and free 30 minute introductory lesson, which gives us an opportunity to make sure there's a synergy between us as teacher and student. We discuss which music book might be best for your particular requirement, and the pace at which you'd like to learn!
I like to make sure that the student is serious about wanting to learn to play the piano, and is willing to devote at least some time every day to practice. Ideally I think it takes 20- 30 minutes per day to experience gradual and noticeable improvement with focused and dedicated practice. Obviously little children may start off with a shorter amount of practice time, often combined with short music theory lessons shared between parent and child experienced with a game-like approach.
Choose a teacher who you connect with, and one who will share in the joy of your growth and achievements! It's so important to have fun as you're learning the language of music!
I enjoy Broadway musicals SO very much. I learned to play mostly because I wanted to sing, which required me to accompany myself. Not that my voice was anything special, but I absolutely loved to sing. I excelled in choir and did achieve some level of success and enjoyed singing in the occasional community musical here and there. I'm very excited now to be able to attend "Hamilton" when it comes to Austin this December, and anxiously await that experience with my Granddaughter!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Scheduling - discuss establishing a regular time each week that is convenient for both of you;
Music books - the teacher can guide you with the appropriate book to acquire for your age and skill level;
What are your goals you may have considered to achieve with your lessons? How far might you wish to go - do you aspire to be an advanced pianist or play a keyboard focusing on musical chord work? The teacher will need to know these things to guide you to reach these goals!

Julie has been a pleasure to work with for the last 2 years. Our child adores her and always walks away from lessons with great pride and motivation to continue playing piano. She is patient, yet challenges the student to push their boundaries without pressure. The recitals are well organized and have helped my child to gain confidence in public performance. We highly recommend Piano Lessons by Julie.
My kids have been learning the piano with Ms. Julie for about 2 years now. She is an excellent teacher who is very patient with her students and is willing to help them get over any obstacles in their piano learning journey. As the piano is the type of instrument where things look easy at the beginning but the difficulty level ratchets up very fast, having an understanding teacher is very important.
Ms. Julie also holds recitals where the students are able to showcase their abilities to a wider audience. I highly recommend her as a teacher.Julie is a wonderful piano teacher! My son (8 years old) truly enjoys going to his lessons and always feels encouraged by her positive and enthusiastic teaching style.
If you're looking for a talented, patient and caring piano teacher who will make learning fun and rewarding, look no further!Ms. Julie is fantastic, especially for younger children. She is wonderfully patient and truly invested in helping kids enjoy the piano. My son has improved so much under her care.
Julie is a child whisperer! She is a master of getting children to engage in lessons while having fun. My daughter has learned so much and found the joy of the piano.
My girls have come so far. Julie is so patient and friendly with them and flexible with working with families.
Julie has worked with my daughter Shelby for the past two years and she seems to know just what my daughter needs. From choosing activities and books that hold my daughter’s attention to being extra gentle if Shelby is having a long day, Julie knows how to teach kids piano. Julie’s patience is amazing and she really gets kids interested in learning their notes and playing songs.
My 9 yr old has been taking piano lessons with Julie and very much enjoys learning playing piano and taking music theory instruction. She is a great instructor my daughter has improved noticeably since starting with her. Julie has been excellent on communication with me on scheduling and how my daughter is progressing as well.
She makes the lessons fun for my 8 yr old and is very patient. My daughter even practices😃.
I really liked how Julie prepared a fun and appropriate leveled lesson for my 11 year old beginner daughter. Julie has been patient and kind through out each lesson. My daughter tends to be a bit shy and Julie was able to bring her out of her shell and made her experience enjoyable and fun. I would recommend her to anyone who is thinking of giving their child piano lessons.
