About Hannah

Hello, world! I'm an independent tutor situated in Boise, Idaho, and I want to help you learn the skills you want/need! I started out as a piano teacher, and have since branched out to teaching English, and have my certification to teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Now, I'm looking to do more teaching in more subjects, from Biology to knitting to the accordion! I'm an accomplished musician and have played gigs on the west and east coasts, including being the first chair bassoonist in a symphony orchestra that performed in Carnegie Hall. I'm a published author, and love anything that involves telling a good story, including films, music, and creative writing. Most of all, I love helping people learn things they might not have even imagined, before, and I like to do it in a fun way.

I started by teaching a few kids in my neighborhood how to play the piano while I was in high school, and also volunteered to be a section leader in my high school marching band, where I taught band members how to march, how to perform, etc.

About the lesson

First things first: I like to get to know the student and see where they are in whatever subject I'm teaching them. Mostly, I like knowing why they want to learn. From there, my students and I work out a game plan to success, and set smaller learning goals to help them stay motivated. I try to fill all of my lessons with doing, and I try and make the learning environment as fun, yet as productive, as possible. I like to push my students, because I firmly believe that the more you step out of your comfort zone, the more you improve.

I've worked with students of all ages and skill levels, but not anyone with a mental handicap/disability.

A teacher that's good for someone else isn't always good for you! Make sure you get a teacher who's going to meet your individual needs and is ready to help you succeed.

Teaching-wise, I volunteered at a STEM event in Boise a few weeks ago, where I got to show kids how to put together a skull. It was really cool to see how excited the kids got when they realized they knew something about the way their body fit together.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The biggest thing: think about why your taking lessons. If you let your teacher know your goals, they'll have a much easier time making a plan, and you'll be far more productive in your lessons by focusing on what you really want/need to focus on.

I work out prices with my students based on how much experience I have in their subject of choice, intensity of lessons desired by the student, etc. My rates start at $10/lesson.
