About Rebecca
With 8 years experience teaching and a year of subbing in the public school system, I have knowledge and skills that will help young students to be successful in music. I also have extensive knowledge and passion for writing and language, and would consider being a tutor in these areas as well.
I was a sophomore in college when I was tutoring a friend in a music listening skills class. After that session with her, a light bulb went off and I realized “I just taught somebody something!” I switched my major from performance to education on the spot.
I went to college for music education, 8 years teaching music plus a year of subbing (in all areas). I have 32 credits of graduate work in music. Regarding other subject areas, I have always attained an A or higher average in language skills and writing.

When I begin with a new student (in music or other subject), I take time to get to know the student. Their likes, dislikes, etc. From there, I try to come up with exercises that are simple in nature, so I can get a feel for their knowledge level. After that, we compile a plan, hand out necessary materials, and the process of learnings begins.
I’ve worked with all ages, from kindergarten through high school. Students from low SES backgrounds to those in a higher class. Students with special needs and those without.
Those seeking assistance in music should do so because they LOVE music. And if music isn’t necessarily a passion of theirs right now, to open their minds to the experiences they could have in music.
I have been working extensively with a teacher at a private classical school in town, preparing students for an honor choir audition. I helped record and submit these auditions, as this was the first time for this teacher doing auditions for this particular choir. The students were a delight to work with, one of whom took every pointer I gave and applied it, to make their audition the absolute best!
