About William

I am a classically trained pianist with a knack for picking up multiple musical stylings and over 30 years of performing under my belt. In addition to playing in a variety of venues, I have accompanied string orchestras, choirs, soloists, and congregations. I believe that technical skills and reading sheet music are the easier things to teach, and focus my efforts on teaching students how to emote through their music. Crescendos, pianissimos, fortisimos, and ritardandos are what truly make a pianist an artist. After achieving superior rankings in competitions in four consecutive years during high school, and touring with the Suzuki Strings, I attended the Florida State University School of Music. I have been working in the technology sector for many years since, while continuing to perform a variety of musical stylings and in a variety of venues throughout Florida and now Maryland. I am now focusing my energy on bringing a deeper emotional connection to the auditory art of piano in today's learners, both young and less young. I am also an accomplished vocalist and am happy to teach the nuances of accompanying yourself! I look forward to working with you.

I really enjoy being music to life with my students. Plenty of instructors can teach technique and sight reading skills, I am passionate about making auditory art.

I have had over 10 years of lessons and attended a national leading School of Music. I have volunteered with children and youth teaching about environmental and conservation concerns. I have also worked with special needs groups (ASD and others), instructing programmed play time.

About the lesson

I start off with an informal discussion regarding their desires for the learning process, and the outcomes they are looking for. I also work to gain an understanding of their overall musical background, and best learning methods so we can have the most productive lessons possible. All aspects of learning are up for grabs, and we can focus strictly on the playing or look at all aspects of the piano including its history and future, technique of playing, sight reading sheet music or learning new songs by ear.

Details

I charge a flat rate of $30 per half hour for lessons in my students home, on their familiar instrument, and a negotiated travel fee if outside of a 15 mile radius from 21046.
