About Jake

Hello! My name is Jake. I've been playing piano for 27 years and have been teaching for over 10 years. I have been classically trained through the advanced level and have extensive experience playing various genres of piano, including classical and contemporary.

I’m passionate about music and about helping people discover their own passion for playing the piano! I believe that quality teaching makes a powerful difference in the learning experience, and am committed as a teacher to helping each student succeed and thrive in their journey with piano!

I began teaching piano lessons shortly after graduating from college in 2015, I love piano and am passionate about other’s learning to love it too so teaching was a no-brainer for me!

I have been playing piano for 27 years, including 13 years of private piano lessons, 4 years of church piano training in college; and 10 years of experience playing piano as a church minister.

Typically, our lessons times will include 3 elements - warmups (flashcards, scales etc), lesson book review and practice, and elements of piano theory. The rhythm and timing of each of these varies student to student, and as we engage these elements I will be actively learning what each student’s needs and preferences are and finding ways to teach toward those things!

In my time as a piano teacher, I have had the opportunity to teach students ranging from 5 years old to folks in their later stages of life! I specialize in teaching students who are beginning piano, or are still in the beginner to intermediate level of piano.

I would encourage anyone looking for a piano teacher to find someone who cares for them, feels safe and trustworthy to them, and makes the process of learning to play piano feel doable and enjoyable.

I recently had a students share with me that they have really enjoyed our lesson times together and that they are loving the piano. As a teacher this is exactly what I hope to hear from students!
