About Margaret

Margaret Matejcek started her music career out as a pianist, followed by cello for twelve years. She has always had an undying passion for music in any form, and her work ethic and loyalty to clients makes her stand out as a teacher. Margaret is also a 200-HR RYT certified yoga instructor, and enjoys incorporating yoga's mindfulness and breathing techniques into her instruction. She loves teaching students of a wide variety of ages, abilities, backgrounds and goals because she believes that music in any form or quality is good music.

Margaret is an emerging soprano living and working in the Twin Cities area. Her most recent credits include Venus in "Venus and Adonis" at the Brooklyn Music School, Morpheus in Offenbach's "Orpheus in the Underworld" and Suor Genevieffa in Suor Angelica at the University of Minnesota. During her residency in Brooklyn NY, she also had the opportunity to work with coaches and directors such as renowned tenor and HBO actor Anthony Laciura, pianist Thomas Muraco, and body-mapping expert Jan Prokop.

In previous years, Margaret has participated in the international “Opera Viva!” vocal program in Verona, Italy, where she frequently performed whilst receiving intensive language, performance, and technique study. Margaret also appeared as one of six duos with her collaborative pianist Irina Stene in the national Source Song Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There she workshopped and performed art song repertoire with the guidance of world-renowned artists and composers including Francois LeRoux, Arlene Shrut, Olivier Godin, Abbie Betinis, Libby Larsen, and more.

Awards include third place at the MN-NATS competition in 2015 following two consecutive first place wins in 2011 and 2012.

Margaret just graduated with high distinction from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, where she studied with Jean del Santo.

About the lesson

I like to first meet with a student and learn their goals and what they would like to accomplish in studying with me. I am very committed to tailoring my curriculum and teaching style to fit the student, not the other way around.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How hard are you willing to work toward your goals? How much time do you want to spend per week working on it? Is this a hobby, passion, or a livelihood for you? Are you open to new ideas and ways of working, or do you have a specific teaching style you are looking for?
