About Maryruth

QUALITY INSTRUCTION IN HARP, PIANO & VOICE

Maryruth has offered private music instruction for 15 years in harp, piano, and voice. She is a skilled teacher who strives to help her students succeed in their chosen goals and dreams. She has both a Bachelor's and a Masters degree in music and is currently a Doctoral candidate studying Harp Performance. Feel free to browse her website for more information:

I started teaching harp and piano when I was in high school, but I really found my passion for it when I graduated from college. I wasn't really intending to teach, but as a favor to a friend I agreed to be a musical director for a youth production she was working on that had lost its musical director. I did it begrudgingly, but by the end of the production found that I not only really loved teaching, but that I was good at it! I have been teaching and directing music ever since!

I have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Arizona in Harp Performance with additional study in classical voice. I have a Masters Degree from the University of Limerick (Ireland) in Ritual Chant and Song (this degree specializes in early vocal performance and Gregorian Chant). Finally, I am in the process of earning a Doctorate in Music, specifically Harp Performance from the University of Utah. I in addition to this, I have 10 plus years of experience as a music teacher, performer (both in America and abroad) and choral director.

About the lesson

I like to spend the first lesson getting to know each other and learning more about what you hope to achieve in lessons! I will articulate to you what to expect from music lessons, and what music you will need to purchase, etc. I generally work with a student at least once a week for a minimum of 30 minutes, although some students find an hour to be beneficial as well. We can decide together! Each week I will give you a list of goals and then we'll check-in at the next lesson and make a new list for the following week. You'll be up and playing before you know it!

I have worked with SO MANY different kinds of students! I have worked with teens who have gone on to study music (I even gig with some of my former students now!), I have worked with students who are just taking music lessons for fun, I have worked with adults, disabled people, young children, I have worked with professionals seeking coaching for a specific project or audition...you name it, they have come through my studio!

Details

I charge $30 per half-hour lesson and $60 for an hour lesson. My students pay for the lessons they plan to take at the beginning of the month (if you need to cancel 24-hour notice is required and then we can just reschedule!). It's that simple!
