About Nick

Nick's lessons are individualized, relationship-based, humorous, positive, and student-directed. He accepts students from reading age upwards. He specializes in making piano fun!

About Me

I fell in love with classical music as a child and began flute and piano lessons at age eight. His first band was a Dixieland combo in high school. You might say music saved me from my focus problems!

I love classical and other good music, but my favorite sandbox is the improvising world of jazz. I have broad experience as soloist and with small and large jazz ensembles, dance bands, and Top 40 groups, including extensive work accompanying vocalists and arranging.

I’m not surprised at the accumulating evidence that playing music study results in smarter kids. I am committed to having his students win the "brain game" and learn with joy. I stress deep understanding of the piano through theory, ear training, and supplementing with favorite songs students want to learn.

I offer a free get-acquainted session to make sure there is a good match between teacher and student and to get you fired up about your lessons!

Rates/policies

Half hour - $25

45 minutes - $37.50

Full hour - $50

Weekly or biweekly lessons are available. Payment is due by first lesson of the month; in special cases payment may be made weekly. Cancellations must be made more than 24 hours prior to a lesson to reschedule and to avoid forfeiting.

I am especially interested in and effective with:

- younger children and teenagers - classical and other styles through intermediate level

- students with learning challenges

- advanced jazz students

- adults (beginners, returning after a long time, or classically trained but wanting to try improvisation, popular music, and playing by ear.)

About the lesson

Piano lessons offered by Nick are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Eugene. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
