About Heather

I have been studying music for over 15 years, and have a BA in Piano Performance from Texas A&M University-Commerce. In addition to teaching the fundamentals and building a strong foundation, I teach pop or church music tailored to each student's specific interests or styles

I am a full time private teacher, and I love not only sharing the knowledge of music with others, but seeing my students grow in discipline and confidence!

While still in highschool I taught a few students here and there, but it wasn't until after I graduated from college with my degree in music that I realized my passion for teaching and started to build a private studio.

I have taught private lessons at The Academy at Texas A&M University-Commerce, The Rockwall School of Music, and The Guitar Sanctuary.

About the lesson

I like to schedule a short interview with potential new students if possible so that we are both able to meet, talk, and get to know each other a little; this also gives students or parents a chance to ask any additional questions, and allows me to evaluate what piano method or level I think would be best suited for the new student.

I have worked with students as young as 5 yrs old to adults in their sixties. Most of my students are in the range of 7-18 years old.

I have found with many students that they don't always know what to ask and can end up with a low quality teacher; I would advise anyone looking to ask as many questions about the teacher's education and experience as well as methods used; a solid teacher will not only provide lots of information, but will also have answers for those questions!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If you have a specific musical goal, absolutely ask the teacher you are considering how they can help you get to that point; some teachers may be better suited for certain musical styles than others. If you are brand new to music it may take having lessons for a year or two to develop your taste and discover your interests.

Details

I have a fixed cost for lessons taught in my home studio; for student's who prefer I drive to them there is a travel/convenience fee of $35 a month added on.

I have a special rate for homeschool students who schedule lessons before 2pm on weekdays.
