About Eugenia

Dr. Eugenia Posey-Marcos has over 40 years experience teaching children and adults piano, keyboard, organ, theory, music appreciation and history, piano ensemble and accompanying. She has a Master of Music degree from the Hartt School of the University of Hartford in piano teaching and performance and a Bachelor of Music degree from Wesleyan College (Magna cum Laude) in piano performance. She had additional coursework at Georgia State University and Suzuki training in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1998 she received a Ph.D. from East Tennessee State University. She is an active member of the American College of Musicians (National Guild of Piano Teachers), serving as the chairman for the Germantown/Gaithersburg Maryland auditions, and also the National Music Teacher's Association, including Maryland State and Montgomery County Associations. She is a life member of Sigma Alpha Iota (International Professional Music Fraternity) and Kappa Delta Epsilon (International Professional Education Sorority). She has performed as soloist and as a professional accompanist throughout the eastern United States and currently serves as a church organist/director in Germantown, Maryland.

Dr. Posey-Marcos began her musical training with Hilda Gervais, Peggy Brown, and Sarah Westbrook in Decatur, Georgia and studied with concert artists Edward Eikner at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia and with Linda Lane in Atlanta, Georgia. She was studio accompanist for Peter Harrower and studied with Dr. Carey Lewis at Georgia State University. Further study took her to Connecticut, where she was a student of Raymond Hanson and Dr. Moshe Paranov and also had coaching sessions with Luiz de Moura Castro and Anne Koscielny. After completion of her Masters of Music degree from the Hartt School, Dr. Posey-Marcos taught piano in Atlanta and Stone Mountain, Georgia for the Jim Scott Organ and Piano Company, The Piano Studio, and the Gwinnett School of Music and her own private studio. She continued her teaching and accompanying career in Kingsport, Tennessee, while completing her Ph.D. in biochemistry/molecular biology at East Tennessee State University. Additionally, she performed many chamber music and solo piano recitals, and two organ recitals. After marrying Dr. Hani Marcos in 1999, the Marcos's moved to Maryland and have made their home in the Gaithersburg/Laytonsville area. Dr. Posey-Marcos has taught in Maryland for over 15 years. Her philosophy is that each person has the potential to be an artist and piano is one such medium that Dr. Posey-Marcos has found as a means of artistic expression that she feels compelled to share with others. Dr. Posey-Marcos knew that the piano was "her" chosen instrument, when at the age of three she saw and played her first piano. It was magic and has been ever since her first encounter. She loves working with children and seeing them develop into little artists with a passion for their instrument. Equally satisfying, is working with adults who have always wanted to play the piano.
