About Joy
My name is Joy Ngiaw and I am a piano teacher. I was born in Malaysia and raised in China. Growing up in a musical household, I grew up playing classical piano at the age of 6. Before college, I took ABRSM piano exams till grade 8, and played in school orchestras, choir, and was the pianist of New Shanghai Orchestra.
I went to Berklee College of Music for the major of Film Scoring in 2012. I currenly live in LA, working as a freelance composer. I love composing for film and media, but I also love sharing my passion for the instrument Piano. It makes me so happy and fulfilled to be able to see kids feeling joy through their love for music. If the kids are interested in composing as well, I would be happy to teach that. I started improvising on the piano when I was young, and that sparked my interest in composing. So I do believed the kid's creativity can be sparked at a young age.
Qualifications:
- ABRSM grade 8 piano

I would first get to know the student - what kind of music do they like, what hobbies to they have, what sparks their interest and creativity. Having genuine conversations with the student could help bridge a connection, earning their trust in me, and create a loving learning experience.
I worked with students aging from 5 years old to 12 years old.
The most important thing is see if the child feels a connection with the teacher. With a good teacher and a teacher they feel comfortable with, that will aid in the learning process and motivate them to work hard.
When my student Emma (6 years old) played a piano duet with her sister Noah (9 years old) and performed for the family. I was very proud.
