About Shaharoh

I am a musician, singer-songwriter, composer with a MFA in music from CalArts and BA in English Literature from UCLA. I enjoy connecting with all students especially those who might not be comfortable with the standard classical way of learning piano, voice or songwriting. I also enjoy writing and have helped many students work on sharing their stories. We all have different paths and experiences that lead us to expressing ourselves. I want to share in the cultivation of each individuals' talent and passion in sharing their journeys in their own unique way. (concealed information)

I am an introvert and sometimes need to work on my art with a teacher one-on-one instead or in a classroom setting. This is the kind of space I provide for my students. I don't want them to feel intimidated, shy or under any pressure. I enjoy making them feel as though they can hone their craft with no distractions and feel safe and open to do so.

I didn't become serious about teaching in the arts until I went to graduate school. Then I co-taught a class in the winter to undergraduates and realized I enjoyed working with artists on cultivating their own unique voice and listening to their stories through their artistry.

Over 25 years working as a musician, singer, songwriter, MFA in Music specialization Performer-Composer, BA in English Literature. I've also worked as an administrator for over 20 years and have experience drafting a plethora of documents.

About the lesson

Accessing what their short-term and long-term goals are and then creating a plan to achieve them.

I've worked with students of all ages and experience levels.

Some of the greatest artists, singers and musicians never had formal training. Focusing on technique is useful but I've found that what moves and inspires me to sing, compose or write is also a great starting point. This is the most organic place an artist can begin from and then use technique to shape or enhance their vision.

With writing, grammar is important to a certain extent but putting thoughts on paper is even more important. It is hard sometimes to translate what we feel and think into words. We all have unique ways of sharing our stories.

Going back to school for a graduate degree in the arts was truly one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life especially since it was during a pandemic.
