About Anne marie
Hi, I'm Miss Annie. I have been teaching piano for the last 8 years. Most of my students come to my studio in West Medford, MA and a few students I teach online. I have taught piano using several different approaches throughout the years but about 3 years ago I found the audiation based approach that was developed by Dr. Edwin Gordon after decades of research. Since then I have been doing intensive teacher training courses and guiding my students as they learn to play intuitively, expressively and with understanding. We spend more than half of the class away from the keyboard where we listen, move, build our tonal and rhythm vocabularies and learn how to coordinate our bodies and our breath with our music making. Then we bring all of these skills to the keyboard where we learn keyboard geography, proper technique, performance pieces, and also find time in every class for creativity, exploration and improvisation. We really develop our musical minds by singing and playing while audiating, and don't just mindlessly push down keys. We wait until later in the process to introduce music notation when the student is ready. My classes are creative and fun and I love guiding my students to become expressive musicians.
