About Annah

I started teaching a few students in high school and found that I really love teaching music. In college, I took some classes in piano pedagogy because I had loved it so much, and they quickly became some of my favorite classes. While working at a local studio in college, I taught 12 students, lead ensemble classes, and prepared my students for their recitals and exams.

I received a Bachelor's of Art in Communications, and I took a cluster of classes in piano pedagogy. While in college, I taught at a piano studio. For the past two years, I've taught English to children in China and loved it. I've found that teaching English as a second language has so many similarities to teaching the language of music.

About the lesson

I have worked with beginner and intermediate students, and that is where I thrive the best. It's never too late to learn, either! If you didn't start when you were 3 years old or 13 years old, don't worry. It's a complete myth that adult students have a harder time learning to play the piano.

Look for someone with a personality to match your learning. For example, some students love quiet teachers while others love playing musical games off the piano bench. I lean more toward learning through fun.

Also, look for teachers that teach what you are interested in. Besides repertoire and technique (that every teacher should teach beginners), I teach things like beginner's composition and playing from lead sheets. If you want to learn jazz, find a teacher who specializes in jazz.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
First, consider are you willing to practice? Piano takes a long time to learn. It is like learning a new language. No one would expect you to become fluent in Thai two weeks in.

Do you have a piano? If not, are you willing to purchase one? You can't learn piano without one at home, just like you wouldn't learn to paint without a canvas or sculpt without clay.

Do you know your learning style? Do you have any learning struggles? Always let your teacher know beforehand so they can best prepare their lessons and know how to teach you.

Details

Payment is due at the beginning of each month or quarter. Fall, winter, and spring quarters are 12 weeks long at $300. Summer lessons are 11 weeks long at $275. In the summer, there is also the option of group lessons at a discounted rate of $200 for the 11 weeks.

There is an additional discount as I build my studio for signing up multiple students at once. For the fall, winter, and spring quarters, that translates to $250 per student instead of $300.
