About Inger

I ask a new student (and parents) to come to my studio for a free interview. You can then find out how I teach and how we would work together. I specialize in the Suzuki method in which you can start very young children, but I also teach traditional piano and I have several adult students.

I graduated Magna com Laude in Piano Performance and I have taken many teaching credits as well.

I have been teaching in Needham for the last 30 years.

I treasure my relationships with the students and their parents, I have made many very good friends, as we are having such a great time together. We accomplish a lot and the children from the start feel pride in their progress and enjoy playing. I am using "positive reinforcement", meaning putting emphasis on all the things the student does well.

Besides the weekly lesson we have several group lessons and once a year we have a big recital that you can invite all your family and friends to. The children look forward to showing off the wonderful music they can play.

Learning to teach was part of my education, so it was natural for me to use this skill.

About the lesson

I would find out what approach would work for that particular student, and I would try to work with his strengths.

I specialize in very young students (4 - 5 years old) who learn by the Japanese Suzuki method. It is very successful, you learn to play before you can read music, there is parental involvement, it is a wonderful cooperation between teacher, parent and child. We use a lot of positive reinforcement so that this is a joyful relationship.

I also teach traditional piano, meaning learning to read music from the first lesson. I have many children and some adults that use this approach. This is also a happy experience, but you cannot start as early.

I would tell the student that I would be able to be a good teacher for them, no matter their age.

I actually have a student who is 88 years old and is enjoying himself performing.

I have had two learning challenged children that for neurological reasons could not learn the traditional way of reading music. So I started them on colored note reading, a method I found on the internet.

They have been very successful, they have no problem seeing the colors and connecting them with certain notes and they perform in group lessons and recitals and are not aware that they learn differently, it comes so naturally.

So the recent event that I am fond of was the spring recital where they played and felt joy over their music.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should make a decision to set aside enough time to practice in order to be successful. It is also a financial commitment, so you should be sure you do your part to make it worth while.

My lessons are half an hour long, they are very focused on the success of the student, so that he will walk out with a clear goal for the home practice and with joy over what we are doing.

The price is $45 for a half hour lesson.
