Piano Instruction – All Styles and Skill Levels
Whether you’re a beginner just starting out or an experienced player looking to expand your skills, I offer personalized piano instruction for all levels, from children ages 10 through adults.
My teaching covers a wide variety of musical styles, including contemporary, classical, rock, blues, boogie-woogie, ragtime, country, and more. I specialize in helping students who have become frustrated or bored with traditional teaching methods discover a more practical, enjoyable, and creative approach to learning the piano.
Music theory is incorporated into lessons with an emphasis on real-world application, particularly in blues, country, rock, and contemporary music. Students learn not only how to play, but also how music works, helping them develop their own musical ideas and playing style. Internet resources are used as a supplement to enhance learning, and online lessons are available upon request.
Experience and Background
I have loved the piano for as long as I can remember and enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience with others. My teaching journey began decades ago when people asked me to help them learn to play. Since then, I have maintained a small number of dedicated students, allowing me to provide individualized attention and instruction tailored to each student’s goals and interests.
I am a Berklee College of Music alumnus, with certification in piano performance, decades of professional playing and teaching experience, and a degree in Behavioral Psychology.
My goal is simple: to help students develop their skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of making music.

Perfect! Rob is a kind instructor no matter your level and progress and is encouraging when some lessons are challenging. It’s obvious he greatly enjoys the instrument himself and can also discuss and instruct on music theory from multiple angles. He has performance experience as well. He also goes beyond the book to include other styles like the blues. Happy to recommend.

Truly an excellent experience. My daughter interest continue to grow in Piano and I d give the credit for her remarkable performance to her tutor Rob. He is very punctual , and encouraging for the student.
I have been taking lessons from Mr. Primrose for quite a few months now and the learning experience has been nothing but driving and enjoyable. He is very flexible and accommodating as an individual. As an instructor he understands the troubling points of a new learner and helps deal with the frustration that might occur when learning becomes a little difficult. All in all he is a great teacher and has made virtual lessons very easy as well. Highly recommend Mr. Primrose for any level of piano/keyboard enthusiasts who wants to learn something new or even just jam.
Rob was my son Tyler’s piano teacher. I switched him to Rob when Tyler lost interest and was not enjoying his traditional lessons anymore. Rob engaged him with different styles and made it fun. Tyler is now a young adult and has been touring and playing professionally all over the country. Rob continues to connect and be a mentor to Tyler. I credit much of Tyler’s success and live of music to Rob.
