About Lauren
Hi! I am a student studying Applied Psychology at Boston College and absolutely love working with children. I have been teaching private lessons for around 5 years now. At school, I work at a Boston Public School, where I give private music lessons and help in the general music classroom. I also teach private lessons when I'm home on Long Island and work with children as young as 3-4 years old (for piano). I also have experience working with children with special needs. I will only be on Long Island until the semester starts in September, unless we end up being remote, but would love to help start your child off on their instrument or keep them learning throughout the summer!
I have played piano since 4th grade and played clarinet and French horn throughout high school and now college. I was a part of Tri-M Music Honors Society in high school where we volunteered to give private lessons to prepare students for NYSSMA. I absolutely loved it and continued teaching lessons with a few of those students and then throughout college through volunteer and work study programs.

When working with a new student, I try to first understand the level of music education (if any) that they have received in the past, and also get to know them and what their interests are. By centering the lessons around what they enjoy, they are much more likely to have fun and be motivated to practice and continue learning their instrument.
I have worked with children ages 3-12 for piano lessons and from 4th-8th grade for French horn, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone. I also have experience with working with children with special needs such as ASD and emotional/behavioral problems.
I think it is important to find a teacher that will teach beyond simply reading sheet music. It is so important for children to learn skills outside of this, and to make sure students are working on site reading as well.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is your purpose for signing up for musical lessons (recreational, preparation for higher-level instruments, instruction for NYSSMA or other competition)?
What kind of music do you enjoy playing or listening to?
