About Beverly

I love to teach kids and adults how to play either the piano or the accordion. I have many years of experience and many of my students have profited their lives with music. One former student that I have is a former CEO of a credit union. She tells me that because she learned how to play, she used her skills to make her a better CEO. Another former student of mine became the Sound System manager for the Comanadante Band that plays for the President of the United States. I am also very proud of the students that became music teachers themselves or went on to pursue other Teaching Positions. I also have had students that became engineers. Music does more than just teach a kid or an adult how to play for enjoyment, It teaches lifelong skills that will apply to greater achievement for success in any thing.

I have a method that works. I actually learn this method by taking algebra which I had to learn in order to pursue a teaching career. Five is my magic number. I break the song up into small passages and the student plays each passage 5 times. By the time he/she gets to the end of the 5 times. The "aha" moment kicks in. Once the student gets the "aha" moment, they can proceed to the next passage. I do this for the entire song. It works, and students find that by using this method, they can accomplish anything.

About the lesson

I use the Alfred Palmer method to teach new students. It is a fun method. I never ever use the word "practice" because to a new student it sounds like work. I want the piano to be fun so I use the word "playing" It is more enjoyable to a new student. I also teach music theory along with lessons. When I get enough students, I want to have a recital. I usually have at least one a year. Sometimes two. By having recitals, students learn how to complete songs that will showcase their talent. I also like to teach Christmas songs and other songs that are seasonal. I use a lot of praise for my students. Praise will get me a lot of respect as a teacher. Both adults and kids like to hear how well they are doing. I have little quirks such as teaching 8th notes by having students say "da-da" fast instead of "one and", because they remember "da-da" instead of "one and." I have had kids that have majored in music and gone on to become very accomplished musicians. I am proud of my ability to be a very good musician and teacher.
