About Kimberly
Hello, my name is Kimberly Chermak. According to my mom, I crawled up on the piano Pampers and all at age 2. I have to take her word for it because I obviously don't remember that far back, but I do remember always having a passion for music for as long as I can remember. In the past year, I have had the outrageous fortune of being able to return to this passion, as well as to my passion for musical theatre, and actually get paid to do something I have always loved. I have come to realize that there are many people out there who would like to have the opportunity to learn these same skills and who realize as much as I do that music instruction can be beneficial to their children both academically and personally. I have a very strong background in education, possessing an M.S. in Education and an M.A. in English. I have taught every level from pre-school to college. I presently teach piano to students of all ages and guitar and ukulele to young children. I welcome the opportunity to work with even more students to hopefully ignite the same passion for music that I have.
I taught piano when I was younger on the side, but left teaching piano behind for several years until nearly a year ago. I auditioned and was cast in the musical Annie in the Spring of 2017. It was discovered that I could read music and play piano, which led to an opportunity for me to teach music for Creative Brain / Music Star. I am having such a great time teaching for this company that I wish to expand my clientele and hopefully do music / theatre arts related endeavors full-time.
Admittedly, my education does not pertain to music. However, I have been playing piano for nearly 40 years. I can also play other instruments as well, including the guitar and ukulele. Additionally, I have a background in theatre / musical theatre, having most recently performed in Annie in 2017.

Most of my students come to me knowing little to nothing about music, so I am prepared to take them from the very beginning of music instruction. I do like to get to know my students however, and I like for them to get to know me as well. So, during the initial introductory period, I assess what they do know about music and their aptitude at learning music / new skills and tailor an individualized instruction plan to meet their needs and goals.
I have worked with students of all ages. Presently, I teach ukulele to 3rd graders, guitar to 4th graders and a father/son duo and piano to children and adults. I am experienced with individual and group lessons and am able to tailor instruction to individuals even in a group setting.
Find an instructor who is passionate about teaching, whether the area is music or some other area. Where there is passion, there is patience, practice, and a desire to learn and grow more as an artist. When an artist loses that passion, they lose everything that makes them a true artist and they tend to not be very patient instructors. Learning a new skill, particularly music, requires patience on the part of the instructor and the student.
I am excited about an upcoming showcase in which my 3rd and 4th grade ukulele and guitar students get to show their families and friends what they have learned so far. I also recently felt great pride in a couple of beginning students who retook a beginning group class and were able to show the new beginners where they could expect to be in only a month.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my expectations of this new skill?
What do I hope to learn and how fast do I realistically expect to learn this skill?
What do I need from my instructor?
Am I ready to take on a new skill?
