About Amy
My name is Amy Metzger, MM MT-BC, and I am so glad you are interested in learning more about me! With a bachelor's degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and a master's degree in Music Therapy, I have a wide knowledge of music performance, theory, and the benefits that making music has on the mind and body. I have 15 years of teaching experience. During that time, I have worked with people of all ages and backgrounds to meet their musical goals.
I am passionate about providing a foundational knowledge of music including music theory, proper technique, and how to read and notate music. I focus on learning practical skills to meet the musical goals that the student wishes to accomplish, while incorporating the genres of music the student enjoys most. I always strive to explain things in a variety of ways, and teach using methods that apply to the student's personal learning style to ensure a thorough understanding of music.
By working on music theory and proper technique, I equip students to be life-long learners as they are able to keep growing and playing new music throughout life even after graduating from my studio by using the skills learned in lessons. I also provide opportunities for performances throughout the year to help people prepare for recitals, competitions, auditions, and other performance settings.
Music has the ability to help people reduce stress, increase social connection, express and process emotions, and have fun! It is my joy to teach music and my goal is to imbue a love for music that students can enjoy for life while gaining these benefits.
