About Debbie

I am a professional private and group piano teacher with 30+ years of experience in teaching piano lessons to all age groups, at all skill levels.

In light of Covid-19 concerns, I began teaching piano lessons online only instead of in-person. My adult students and I absolutely LOVE the online setting. We are able to spend more time learning instead of having to spend a few minutes to 'settle down' upon arrival to my studio from traveling perhaps in traffic, and worrying about being late for a lesson. Honestly, even after we all go back to normal, I will probably continue teaching the bulk of my students online!

The students who are accepted into my studio are adults ranging from first-time beginners to intermediate or advanced levels. (Yes, absolute beginners & nervous beginners are WELCOME!) I have a place for anyone that wants to learn, no matter how much experience you have!

I strive to deliver an enjoyable, enthusiastic and creative environment to all my students, while maintaining a high-level of interest and achievement!

What can you expect from our group lessons?

- Online instruction via Zoom video conferencing technology, from a professional private and group piano teacher with 30+ years of experience in teaching piano lessons to all age groups, at all skill levels.

- One of the key benefits of online group lessons is that there is no need to commute and you can learn from the comfort of your own home!

- Learning to play piano in a group format is a very effective method, helping the student to learn and progress faster through interaction with other students just like you!

- An inspiring, motivating, and reassuring learning environment.

- Truthful, sincere praise and feedback on your progress.

- Positive, helpful and nurturing tips and tricks from myself as your instructor, as well as input from others within the group.

- Make friends and connect with other like-minded classmates in the group! Our classes combine education in a social setting filled with fun and learning adventures.

- You will be learning to play using a step-by-step method book (details and how to purchase are found in Items Needed to Join Online Lessons).

- No pressure! You can participate by playing in front of the group, or not! It is totally up to you. (Here's a wager, though.... after a few lessons, even the most bashful student will get comfortable and realize that no one is being judgmental and will start playing for the others in the group!)

- If you just don't want to play for the others for awhile, as a registered student you can send me a practice video with any questions you might have or feedback you might need. I will provide instructions on how to send your practice videos to me upon enrollment.

- I am always open to talk with you about your progress and expectations.... I hope that you will be too!

During my piano teaching tenure, I have developed a wide-ranging knowledge of proven piano instruction methods and techniques.

My teaching philosophy is to encourage, uplift, inspire and motivate, making music fun for those who want to learn to play.

My teaching style is to maintain a nurturing approach to teaching.... praising the 'things done well' before gently discussing and working through the places that need 'tweaking'. A student never leaves our class feeling belittled, but motivated to try even harder! Your success is all about your enthusiasm and your mindset to learn. My main purpose as a piano teacher is to help you to cultivate a love of music and make sure that your enthusiasm does not diminish!

I am a proud member of MTNA - Music Teachers National Association and Georgia Music Teachers Association.
