About Julia

I can teach in English or Spanish, and I meet my students wherever they are at the moment. I am a big believer in the importance and respect of all genres of music, and I am here to help you learn the music that you want to learn! I also understand that people have different commitment levels towards music, and I always make sure to adjust lesson expectations to my students' needs.

I grew up as a classically-trained pianist and clarinetist, and transitioned into the popular music world in college. I received a degree in contemporary performance and Singer-Songwriting, with a minor in Music Business from the Frost School of Music.

In 2019, I won BMI Foundation's Peermusic Latin Scholarship for my original song "Mi Amor." Later that year, my original "Lilac Lullabies" won the Best Song Category at the September Florence Film Awards, for the short film 'The Lighthouse.'

I have taught piano, songwriting and introductory music theory to students ranging from 5-18 years old, independently and through music institutions, such as the Community Arts Program in Coral Gables, FL. At CAP, I received special training in teaching young and special needs students.

Music has helped me tremendously throughout my life, and I am honored to be able to help people discover the role that music plays in their own lives.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, the first thing I do is have a conversation about what their musical interests are, what their level of experience is, and determine what they want to get out of their lessons. This way, we can move forward on the same page.
