About Bensen

I have taught percussion and piano for 4 years now, and have just graduated with my bachelors in Music Education.

I have performed all around the world - U.S., Canada, Greece, and Germany and have played piano for 20 years and percussion for 13.

I love seeing the growth and passion from young learners because it is just so fulfilling to see my students notice and enjoy the music making that they are doing.

I started teaching at my alma mater, and then was recommended to other places from there.

I have taught music in several settings, on the marching field, in a classroom, and privately in a practice room. I have just completed my bachelors in music education, and I am certified in Texas to teach students from Kindergarten to Twelfth Grade.

About the lesson

I always try to get to know my student first, and see what they want to achieve in their musicality. It is always my goal to have the student feel safe in the teaching environment, and also to enjoy the process of music making! I always ask what their interests are, and adapt their interests into our lessons.

For example, one of my students really loves Star Wars, and so I arranged a duet for us to play together: "Duel of the Fates." It really improved his timing, and he got to improve his technical skills while playing something that he enjoyed!

I have taught students ranging from elementary school to high school. General music, band classes, and piano/percussion private lessons.

Be open, flexible, and patient with your music learning. The learning process is never-ending - I am still learning after having 20 years of experience! The fun of it is variety of music you can learn and put into your own playing.

I am fond of the growth that my students have been making. In just a short time (1 month), my student went from not understanding what a rudiment was to playing a full-out rudimental solo for his solo competition. He earned the highest ranking you could get, and I was so happy for him that he accomplished something in such litle time!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do I want to be able to play?

What genres of music do I like?

What can I do now?

What are my long term goals?
