About Ray
My name is Ray Brooks and I’m a 38 years old musician based in Topeka. I hold a Diploma in Piano (including a diploma in theory, harmony and music history) and a Bass Guitar Teaching Diploma.
I think that music is not only a matter of skill with one or more instruments; it comes from and is directed to a deeper sphere. This is why through my lessons, since the beginning, I try to light the fire of passion (as I love calling it) inside my students. I love teaching every aspect concerning the music study: technique, sight-reading, styles, theory, harmony, improvisation, interpretation and general knowledge.
My main influences as a Bass Player are: James Jamerson, Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Aston Barrett, Juan Nelson and Ray Brown.
As a Pianist I’ve always loved: Beethoven, Schumann, Debussy, Joplin and Petrucciani.
As a musician, in wider terms, I’m grateful, for their different musical missions on this planet, to: Miles Davis, Joe Zawinul, Leo Fender, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Yossou N’dour, Ben Harper and all those great musicians who have used their music to make this world a better place.
I can travel to your place with a little additional fee.
