About Kira
I'm a current master's student studying experimental psychology, a teaching assistant for undergraduate psychology research methods and statistics classes, and a former university newspaper copy editor. One of my favorite parts of being in graduate school has been teaching. Partially due to this, I hope to enter a doctoral program in two years to eventually become a professor of psychology.
I've taken a variety of psychological statistics classes, including a course on multivariate modeling, and I'm very comfortable writing about research, using either 6th or 7th edition APA style. I'm very proficient in Excel, and proficient in SPSS and R.

My favorite part of teaching is being able to help students understand concepts that are confusing or challenging to them. Many of the concepts in psychology research aren't particularly intuitive, so working through these concepts to really understand the "how" and "why" is so important. When I see the lightbulbs turn on over my student's heads, I feel like I've done my job, and doing that really makes me happy.

I'm a new tutor, but not a new teacher. My first step in speaking with any student is meeting them where they're at. Listening to your concerns is absolutely crucial in formulating a plan for what I can do to help you. Once I'm confident that I understand the student's thought processes, I use that information to build understanding of ideas from the ground up. Teaching students to understand why things are the way they are is a huge part of my teaching philosophy. As I work through any issues of concern, I pause to check in with students, asking them whether my process is working for them so far. If not, I revise the way I'm approaching the issue.
