About James

Specializing in all things vocal, Jim Emery brings over 30 years of vocal experience to his speaker and singer coaching. As a leader in public performance judging, Jim brings a wealth of insights based on years of judging, coaching, and performing.

Like any coach, the most rewarding experiences are helping my students get better and achieve their goals.

I came out of the singing world as a performer, coach, and then performance judge. After helping a number of professional speakers, they encouraged me to adapt my coaching skills to the public speaking world.

Jim's extensive training and knowledge in the field of vocal production ensures that your voice instruction is properly grounded in solid vocal production fundamentals. His extensive performance experience means he understands the performance stress all speakers experience. And his performance judging and vocal recording experience have tuned his ear to detect every important aspect of your speaking voice and why it is the way it is.

About the lesson

Seminars

A variety of group seminars are available on voice basics, high impact vocal delivery, vocal health, and visualization as a high value rehearsal technique.

Individual coaching

Free initial session to evaluate voice and vocal delivery and to clarify coaching goals. Subsequent sessions may be in person coaching of live speeches or joint viewing and evaluation of videos of speeches given elsewhere. Onsite video capture of live speeches is also available.

Professional speakers (individuals who speak as their livelihood), subject matter experts who speak to associations and other groups in their field of expertise (e.g. economics), authors desiring to make audiobook versions of their books, radio personalities.

Know what you want. I can be very flexible in the approaches I take to public speaking, but specific goals make coaching much more productive.

Also be vulnerable. No change ever occurs without willingness to do some things differently than what you are doing now.

After only two sessions, a student of mine won a Toastmasters district (two states plus one Canadian province) speech contest as the best speaker of thousands who competed at different levels to achieve this championship.
