About Aanika

I am passionate about teaching and have lots of experience with students of all ages. I have worked part-time as a grader and substitute teacher at a K-9 tutoring center in English and Math. I teach middle and high school students in neuroscience each week in an after-school program. I also tutor underclassmen at my university! I have worked as a private SAT and SAT Math Subject Test tutor after receiving scores in the +99% percentile. I also run a college admissions advice and essay prep organization that caters to 250 high school students. I have experience in many fields and love to read and write and explore all sorts of topics!

I love to teach students to be lifelong learners.

I have been teaching for over 5 years. My first experience came with tutoring non-English speaking elementary students in science topics. I fell in love with teaching and have been doing so ever since.

I am a current undergraduate student at Rice University. I study neuroscience so I have a strong STEM background but continue to develop my writing and literature skills through taking college level English and writing courses. I have previously worked with students in K-9 as a substitute teacher and grader and currently tutor middle school, high school, and college students.

About the lesson

I first consult with the student and try to understand their goals. Each student has different needs and learning styles. I go through difficult concepts, practice problems, or anything they are struggling with in school. I also assign weekly homework and am flexible to my student's needs.

I have worked with all grades from K-12. I tend to focus on K-9 for math and English, and 9-12 for PSAT/SAT along with college essay editing.

I would say to speak with the tutor and see if the tutor is a good fit. There is nothing wrong with giving a tutor a try and deciding later on to go with another route but be open minded.

One of my most recent rewarding tutoring moments have been with an elementary schooler who hated school. I started us off extremely slowly with easy problems to build his confidence and by the end of the lesson he was so impressed with himself that he was able to solve problems on his own. My goal is not to just help the student then and there but help them to enjoy learning.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think through realistic goals if they have a specific deadline or time frame and what they want to get out of this tutoring. Perhaps a student wants to improve their grade, or understand concepts better, or get ahead in a class. Whatever the reason, communicating this to your tutor is the best way to get the most out of your time and money.
