About Erin
I have been a teacher for nearly 20 years with a passion for teaching reading. In 2012, I went back to school to get me Master's in Advanced Literacy to be a Reading Specialist. I believe every child can learn and every child can be successful. As a teacher, it's my job to help children figure out the best way to learn and present the concepts in that manner.
I started teaching right out of college. I decided to go into teaching because of a high school teacher who proved to me that everyone can learn. We just have to figure out HOW they learn.
I have a degree in Education with my major being in Early Childhood. My master's is in Advanced Literacy and I have a Lifetime certification in Pre-K to 6th and Elementary Pre-K to 6th Self-contained. I have training in Saxon Phonics, Touch Phonics, and the Write from the Beginning writing process. I have also been trained in a variety of literacy techniques while doing my Master's.

When working with a new student, I like to begin with a complete evaluation of their reading and writing. I like to build a relationship of trust by learning their likes and dislikes as well as their strengths and challenges. After the evaluation, I will set up a set of learning goals and weekly assessments. I will give parents an informal review each month to see where we have come and where we need to go.
I have worked with many children. Some of my students had learning differences, some were just misunderstood. Some of my students were behind because of several absences. No matter the reason, I love to watch children learn and feel the success of learning in their own way.
