About Sallie

Hi There! My name is Sallie. I am a former third grade public school teacher in Atlanta, but now teach in K/1 in a cross grade private school. I graduated from Spelman College with a Degree in Early Childhood Education. In 2017, I received my Reading Endorsement from Mercer University. Graduated with a Master’s Degree in Reading Education from the University of Georgia in the summer of 2020.

I have training in the Fountas and Pinnell Reading Program.

I have taught accelerated math, Coding, STEAM, Singapore Math and Common Core Math.

I have traveled to Cuba to study the educational system, was interviewed by NPR about my experience. I set on a education panel with a former Secretary of Education. Over the past years, I have been been the literacy chair and taught over five workshops on teaching reading.

After graduating in 2016 with a degree in Early Childhood Education, I started teaching fourth grade. I moved on to teaching third grade for three years, all in a public school setting. In my fifth year of teaching, I am in a private school setting teaching a cross grade of K/1.

I graduated from Spelman College with a Degree in Early Childhood Education. In 2017, I received my Reading Endorsement from Mercer University. Graduated with a Master’s Degree in Reading Education from the University of Georgia in the summer of 2020. I have training in the Fountas and Pinnell Reading Program.

About the lesson

Depending on needs, I usually start the first session with baseline assessments in whatever subjects they need support in. We also do an interest survey. This helps me to get to know my students better and create sessions that are engaging and build their confidence in academics.

I have worked with students in different grade levels. With reading, I see mostly younger students who have fallen behind or need a push. Older students with reading need support mainly in comprehension or building on skills. Homework support has been across multiple grade levels as well.

Look for a teacher who does not have a set way to teach. You need to find someone who is flexible and ready to teach to your needs specifically. You also want a teacher with a strong experience background in the subject you need support in. When you are teaching something you love, it is easy to share that passion with your student. We hope that this will bring confidence and a love of the subject to the student as well.

The Aha moments are always the best with students. Finally figuring it out is the best moment you can be part of with a student.

Details

Standard math sessions are $25 an hour.

Standard reading sessions are $35 an hour. The reading sessions are higher due to background and certifications. I also have a background in bringing student reading scores up through this strong background.

All other subjects are standard $25 an hour.
