About Stephanie

I am able to adapt general education instruction to fit your child's needs, even if they are not in a special education program at their school. I can teach a variety of elementary subjects, from beginning reading skills to fractions and decimals. I can teach students in a variety of ways, even online, including visual, verbal, and kinesteic (body movement).

I love affirming for students that they are smart, they are successful, they persevere, and they matter. This work has shown and proven to me all kids are worthy of love and understanding, regardless of ability, race, gender or socioeconomic status. When students feel empowered, I do too. When students feel the joy of understanding, I do too.

I have always loved working with children. I had a wonderful elementary school teachers, from kindergarten to 6th grade. In high school, one teacher inspired me to peruse education, knowing my desire to.

I am certified to teach grades 1-6 and special education. I have a bachelors degree in elementary education/special needs. I have a masters degree in education psychology, which focuses on the impact of trust and trauma to better teach students. I have spoken at a special needs convention about adapting general educational required stories using pictures and simplified text. I have received training in reading, writing and math, and social/emotional learning and instruction.

About the lesson

When working with new students, I share about myself first to build trust and understanding. Then,if they are comfortable, the student shares about themself. Building trust between tutor and student is necessary before academics can begin. I've learned students won't preform if they don't like you.

I have worked with students in kindergarten to fifth grade. I have worked with students with mild-severe intellectual, physical and emotional disabilities. I love them all, even if it is tough.

My favorite memory is when one of my second grade students with emotional disabilities was able to use his calming strategies independently and seemlessly when I was teaching. I was and am so proud of him and I know he was proud of himself. That feeling of accomplishment is what keeps me coming back!
