About Debbie

I have years of experience, patience for children and I am a mother of children with disabilities.

I have taught reading since 1995, I homeschooled my 6 children. I decided to earn an Associate Degree / Paraprofessional at Gateway Technical College, Racine WI

I worked for my Practicumn training at Janes Elementary and I worked last year for Wisconsin Reading Corps.

I will assess your child for a starting point and we build from their in Phonics instruction with duet reading, reading fluency.

In a duet reading intervention, the teacher and student read the same passage and alternate reading each word. During the second reading, the teacher begins reading every other word and during the third reading, the student begins reading every other word. We then reread the selected passage. The more exposure, the better reader they will become.

My favorite part of teacning?tutoring Reading is the lightbulb moment when they get it, reading is improving and they feel so good and confident about themselves.

I love asking them " how do you feel about your reading?" I get answers like " I feel good" or " I am proud of myself, I am not afraid to read outloud anymore".

Homeschooling my children. We were a military family and moved a lot. Moving around the country was hard on our children and it worked out best to bring school with us. all 6 of my children are finished with school and have continued on in their education.

I have an Associates Degree of Applied Science? Educational Assistant? Paraprofessional. I am working on a Bachelors Degree in Psychology with Upper Iowa University. I am currently tutoring 3 children. I have over 20 years experience teaching children how to read as a Homeschooling mother. Last year I tutored in a virtual setting for Wisconsin Reading Corps with success!

About the lesson

I first assess the student for their grade level reading fluency with three reading passages, timed for 1 minute each and take a median score. I make my plans according to these scores and I develope a reading plan according to the needs of the child.

Struggling readers and some disabilities, Dyslexic and ADHD children.

I ahve a daughter who has Dyslexia. I would want to work inperson because of phonetics structures. If I need to,, we will use playdough to create our lessons first. Multi Sensory learning works well with dyslexic students.

Please don't beat yourself up, if you don't do so well on an assignment. We all learn from mistakes, we just tackle those mistakes and go on to do better next time.

Review your work and look for mistakes, then correct any mistakes you find.

I love the Ice Castles in Lake Geneva, all kinds of museums and art. We are members of The Wisconsin Historical Society so we visit Old World Wisconsin a lot. I love the Hot Shop Glass blowers in Racine. Racine county fair.

I love walking the shores of Lake Michigan.

16 dollars an hour but most younger students handle half hour lessions, my experience with children and reading lessons shows that longer lessons cause more stress on the student and I want to avoid anymore added stress. Students often experience stress when they oven compare themselves to other students and realize that they cannot read as well..

so 5 days, half hour lessons for $45.00 a week, in person or online.
