About Curtis
Good Day! My name is Curtis Mayfield Harvey Jr! I’m here to give students the best experience they can get with a private saxophone teacher.
Even better, I’m willing to travel to you! I currently teach in the Raleigh, Durham, Clayton, and Garner areas. I am fully vaccinated and also offer the option of remote lessons for those outside of my current travel radius or those who do not feel comfortable with in person lessons currently.
I’ve been in love with music my entire life and have spent more than 30 years playing different instruments across the spectrum, but 25 years specifically specializing in different versions of the saxophone.
My current focus is beginning students that are between the ages of 8-13 but I’m open to all ages that can comfortably hold a saxophone, adults included. Check out the about me section for more information about my teaching styles and methodology.
Send me a message and let's get your student signed up!
I’ve been teaching on and off over the years as I refined my craft. I’ve always loved helping connect people to music.
25 years specifically specializing in different versions of the saxophone. Tenor is the primary sax I play, but I also play Alto and Soprano.

When I work with a student, I focus on Music Theory and History, sight reading, playing by ear, fingering technique, a long with sound and tone. The bases of the book portion of my lessons are from “Tradition of Excellence” music books that are standard in many elementary and middle school bands, so your child will receive additional practice and support on their musical journey. In addition a fair amount of it will be based on the tricks and tips I’ve learned and picked up from my years of playing.
I have worked with students of all ages, from 8 year olds just starting out, to middle and high school age looking for some private support, and adults looking for a refresher or wanting to learn a new skill.
Find a teacher that loves music and will help you connect with the reasons YOU choose the instrument.
I recent published my first saxophone book.
Saxophone Essentials & Music Theory: Guide to improving your abilities on the saxophone and your understanding of music theory.

My daughter wanted to quit the Saxophone, but then i spoke with Curtis on social media. He showed her a bunch of women saxophonist and helped her learn one if her favorite songs on sax. This helped her feel more confident on the instrument.
Curtis was patient as he went over the music and explained things in ways that made it easy to understand.
