About Brigette

I am passionate about helping my students attain there goals on their instrument by creating a custom curriculum to fit their needs. I am flexible in my teaching techniques, which I believe helps me relate information in a way that students can understand.

I have been teaching private saxophone lessons since 2016 while I was attending college for my Bachelor's in Saxophone Performance. I have taught from beginner's just starting out on the instrument all the way through high school in master classes and private lessons.

I went to college at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA (an hour outside of Savannah, GA) where in 2019 I received my BM in Saxophone Performance with a minor in business marketing and management. During my time at university, I received multiple music scholarships from the music school as well as one community scholarship:

Lewis Stewart Jazz Scholarship 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. Coast Jazz Association Scholarship 2017-2018. Michael Braz Music Scholarship 2016-2017.

I was the saxophone section leader in multiple ensembles including the universities top jazz ensemble, saxophone quartet, and wind ensemble from 2016-2019. I have played soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones in these various groups as well.

I got started teaching by recommendation of my professor, Dr. Carolyn Bryan. It started as a side job while I attended college but I found myself really enjoying helping my students. That's when I realized I wanted to keep pursuing the profession.

In 2019, I received a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from Georgia Southern University.

At the university, I took several pedagogical classes on saxophone as well as flute and clarinet. I was a member and eventually on the executive board for the collegiate National Association for Music Education chapter at the university.

I have taught at various schools in southeastern Georgia holding introductory master classes to the instrument as well as private teaching in middle and high schools.

About the lesson

In the first lesson, rather than focus entirely on playing, I use that time to get to know the student and what their goals are so I can form their own curriculum. Depending on the situation, I would ask them to play something they know or have learned and from there assess what there additional needs might be. If there was enough time, I would give tips and advice so they could see my teaching style.

I have worked with beginners who hadn't even held the instrument yet all the way through highschool. I would say I have mostly taught beginner to intermediate levels.

Every teacher is different; if you don't feel a connection in 1-2 lessons it might be worth it to try someone new. Everyone has different backgrounds and methods to teaching and sometimes it can take some searching to find a good fit!
