About Alex

Let's be clear: I'm here to guide you, NOT control you. Whatever you need help with, let me know. My composition teacher always questioned my response to a specific musical idea because he wanted me to understand. That is the exact approach I will utilize in my lessons.

I was Principal Percussionist at Seven Lakes High School my senior year and Front Ensemble Captain my junior year. Upon our band's "end-of-the-year" party, I was honored to receive Outstanding Percussionist of the Year and the $500 Band Scholarship.

I was exctatic to attend the University of North Texas' renowned percussion studio, but my capabilities as a percussionist diminished due to stenuous practicing. I performed as a baritone in Men's Chorus and noticed vocal performance came to me far more naturally. I officially decided to pursue voice my sophomore year and received wonderful advice from my private lesson teacher professional soprano Heidi Klein. Eventually, I had the privilege to sing with the University of North Texas Grand Chorus.

My hope is that more students get interested in Music Composition. I love it A LOT and I believe I'd love sharing my knowledge of it since I have 10 years of discovering the art. Pieces such as Stravinsky's Petrushka, Ives' New England Holiday's, Ravel's Le Gibet and various works by Steve Reich call to my ear. But know I love songwriters as well, especially if their first name is Daniel and their last name is Rossen and Annie Clarke (St. Vincent).

If you just need help with AP Music Theory, I'd love to help with that also.

I enjoy the process and admiring the sounds. I love to sing Vittoria, mio core since I sang it a thousand times and the Italian language has so much passion within it. Love it! Marimba wins my heart concerning percussion. Keiko Abe's Prism Rhapsody is pretty epic... I could never perform it.

Concerning writing, I've written probably a hundred résumés and truly enjoy the process of designing an eye-catching, clean résumé with words strategically used to grab the attention of specific hiring managers. Persuasive essays are equally enjoyable.

I love composers and recently pondered how much I could teach those interested in composition what I know. The goal is to love music and desire to create sounds that move the soul.

I spent four years studying music at the renowned University of North Texas. I studied in an accelerated music theory class, beginning composition, private lessons with renowned composers, orchestration, electroacoustic, and video game audio.

About the lesson

My process always starts with a simple idea that gradually develops step by step into a more complex concept. The initial idea, I should say, and the more complicated concept are ALWAYS related by a common theme.

I was captain of the Front Ensemble my junior year at Seven Lakes High School and had to help and direct that unique section of the marching band at my alma mater. I was also Principal Percussionist my senior year at Seven Lakes, which carried similar responsibilities as my Front Ensemble role. In a nut shell, I was given opportunities to teach percussion.

Look for a teacher that you can get along with as well as learn a lot about what YOU love as well as different musical techniques for developing your skills as a composer.

I was hired to arrange J.A.C. Redford's Strike Action and Rooftop for trumpet, harp and string quartet for a wedding in 2014.

Details

I charge $30 per one hour lesson. Lessons are to be scheduled once a week and each student that purchases a lesson is obligated to commit to 3 more lessons if he or she decides to commit. The first lesson will decide whether the student wants to continue or not and is free if the student decides to discontinue.
