About Terri

Our teachers are certified with a degree in music education and have over 20 years of teaching experience. We are passionate about music and love to share our knowledge with others. We teach the whole student, technique and musicianship, music reading skills and healthy vocal production, preparation and performance. Check us out on Facebook and Instagram - Goodman Music Studio

Our vocal instructor has been performing in musical theater since the age of 14 and began teaching privately as an undergrad voice major in college. Our wind instructor has played the clarinet since the age of 12, holds 3 master’s degrees in teaching and is currently the band director for a local public high school. He also teaches the beginning band and the middle school Jazz Ensemble.

Our vocal instructor has been teaching privately since 1982 and has 26 years of experience teaching music and choir, K-12, in the public schools. Our wind instrument instructor has been teaching in the public schools, grades five through 12, for over 25 years.

About the lesson

We always meet with the student for one hour during the first lesson to get to know the student, their current music knowledge, their music goals, and assess their current slill level. In order to teach them well, we need to know what they want to learn.

We have taught and coached students from the age of 6 through 76. Music is a lifelong skill and we love to see our students grow and blossom through all stages of their musical life.

As the character Mayor Shinn, from “The Music Man”, would say, “Get that man’s credentials!” Always make sure to find out the teaching credentials of a music instructor. Being a good performer, does not automatically qualify someone to teach the skill. Be sure that you have not only a quality performer as your coach, but also someone who has training in how the instrument works and needs to be cared for.

We love to coach our students toward their own “aha moments.” This usually occurs when a student has been working particularly hard toward a technically challenging goal or musically emotional passage of music. This moment of musical discovery is wonderful for both the student and the teacher.

What is your ultimate goal(s) for taking music lessons? Music preparation, technique, tone quality, audition preparation, performance anxiety, sight reading, vocal health? Know what your goal is so that you can communicate it to your coach. That will allow us to get you to your goal more efficiently.
