About Sharon
As an English speaker who learned Spanish in my teens, I know what it's like to struggle with unfamiliar grammar, verb endings, gender endings, things we never had to learn in English. I have worked at tutoring centers with beginners to AP test prep. One thing I love about studying Spanish is that it's training your brain. I think that's why schools require it, since it shows you can learn something from scratch, take in new information, find patterns, apply it. Hopefully it can be fun, too. (BA in Spanish, Barnard College of Columbia U, Seven Sisters Spanish Prize, parent of 2)

Check in with where the student is, what their goals are and make a plan. We can work on homework together, prepare for test and set up study habits and plans that will foster success. For languages, a lot of it is just repetition, so working with a tutor to reinforce what is learned in class and in homework gives great results. Gently correcting mistakes and getting to the root of why those mistakes happen can bring great realizations not only about Spanish but about English and how our brains work.
