About Nohemi

I have over 10 years of experience in education. Currently, I teach two levels of Spanish at Katz Yeshiva High School. In addition, I teach conversational Spanish for adults, and tutor in Spanish and English as a second language.

Thank you and I look forward to connect with you.

I really enjoy sharing with others what I know. It gives me great satisfaction to see students strive in what they want to learning.

Teaching is my second career. I started in education as a tutor for English learners in the Public schools in Des Moines, Iowa back in 2004. I knew then that I wanted to pursue a career in education.

A moved to Cincinnati in 2006 brought this opportunity to me. I started developing educational programs in low income communities, completed a master of education, and started teaching Spanish in middle school.

In Florida, I worked as a permanent substitute teacher at American Heritage School, taught online at Fluent City.

Currently, I teach Spanish at Yeshiva High School. Also, I started conversational Spanish classes for adults, and private classes.

I have a certification from the state of Florida to teach Spanish. In addition, I have a master of education in curriculum and instruction. I completed a class on AP Language and Culture Spanish for teachers at Nova Southeast University.

English

On my first lesson with a student I assess their knowledge in the language. We go over short and long term goals. I explain the set up of my classes and what they can expect from me.

This first class helps in knowing the student and in planning my lessons. I want them to be relevant to the student.

I have worked with all ages. As a tutor for English learners, I worked from pre-k to high school. I taught Spanish in the middle and high achool. I taught adults English as a second language and conversational Spanish.

There is a great correlation of emotion and retaining what you learn. Classes have to be enjoyable and relevant. As you go on to select an instructor, in addition to qualifications, check how enjoyable was your first experience.

One of the things we do in our adult classes is going to a restaurant and order in Spanish.  Recently, some of my students met at a restaurant in ChimyChurry, Hallandaise. While we were waiting we conversed mixing both languages.

I could tell that one of the adults had practiced talking about how the rest of the family new Spanish because of what they did in their jobs. Even her grandchildren knew Spanish. This was her motivation for this retired administrator of hospitals to learn Spanish. Most of this conversation was in Spanish. She had started learning Spanish about a year ago.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are realistic short and long term goals for acquiring the skills I need?

What are the activities I can do to retain what I learn?

What appilcations and online resources could help with memorization, enrichment and enhancing what you learn in the tutoring sessions?
