About ALLAN

Through various professional experiences, the value in providing students with a “Community Based” instructional model to address educational challenges, personal issues, behavioral problems, or delays in social skills has been invaluable. Implementing inclusive services to students has become a platform to more adequately addressing students’ individualized education plans by showing them that they are not alone in their challenges. Often times, students need a setting whereby they have an opportunity to share behavioral and social needs without judgment. A group setting allows the educator the opportunity to gain more information from the student to ensure an adequately developed plan with the school team. Additionally, working an environment the is inclusive allows the team to ensure the goal of adequately supporting the needs of the whole child.

While one-to-one services are advantageous, there is considerable value in working with small groups as well. Students that may struggle in a conventional classroom setting can often learn to develop a sense of trust with peers and adults in a smaller group. They develop a greater sense of risk-taking, expressive language, and problem-solving ability. Small groups also allow students to feel more comfortable and provide opportunities to socialize with peers that with time can then transfer to a larger group setting. Students can role-play situations that help advance their problem-solving capabilities, ensure social development, and build confidence. Depending on the student’s needs, there is also value in allowing groupings, so students can see progress among peers with the same skill sets.

- Led the development and implementation of PBIS model in correlation with students' IEPs, improving school climate.

- Developed and implemented needs assessments addressing students' social-emotional learning (SEL).

- Created student behavior intervention plans in alignment with the PBIS model.

- Initiated and developed community partnerships, providing residential students with real-life experiences.

- Provided learning opportunities for students outside of the classroom to improve students' cognitive development.

- Implemented bilingual approach to Deaf education, providing students with the opportunity to maintain their identity in Deaf culture and native language, while develop the syntax and semantics of the English language.
