About Viviana

LANGUAGE LEVEL: Introductory, Intermediate, Early-Advanced

LANGUAGE ACCENT: Peruvian, Spanish/European

TEACHING STYLE: Matched to your desired pace, capabilities, and unique goals. Though rote memorization is a necessary focus for introductory classes, I believe that practice and immersion is the best way to learn a language. Such contextual understanding is best developed with excitement for the subject - I hope to help foster that excitement. Active participation with the Spanish language will be expected. Learning of culture is an important function of language context but I do not believe it to be especially significant to speaking and reading until the late-intermediate or early-advanced level. Thus, the focus on cultural learning is at the student's discretion.

THE TUTOR, ME: Hola! I'm Viviana, Spanish level C1. If you're new to Spanish, intermediate, or even early-advanced, I can help you reach your goals. I recently graduated with my B.A. in International Studies where I focused my learning on Spanish and Latin America. I have experience as a substitute teacher at a classical school (K-12) and as a college professor's assistant. I also have experience trying to learn from frustratingly ineffective language teachers! From both the student and teacher perspective, I have learned teaching techniques that are most effective.

Growing up in a family from all across Latin America, I was raised with a love for Spanish culture and language. This extended throughout my college career. For the first half of 2019, I lived with a local family in Granada, Spain, and studied at la Universidad de Granada. This immersion in Spanish culture and language helped me realize the importance of studying such a widely-used language and understanding cultural context.
