About Jim
Looking for your child or yourself to learn and improve yout tennis game or looking for a fun physical activity for your child or looking for an activity that you can share with your child than i am your guy.I am a current United States Tennis Association ranked player in my age division with 25 years teaching tennis experience privately & through the public/private school system.
Most recently, I coached boys & girls tennis at Oakwood High School as well as girls tennis at Providence High School in Los Angeles.
While in college at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., I coached boys & girls tennis at Georgetown Day High School & took them to the PVAC championships.
If I can enrich someone's tennis skills while making it fun...I feel like I have succeeded in adding another player to the team. I enjoy working with kids in kindergarten through 12th grade because I want kids to have a good time while learning so they can keep up the sport in the future.i also enjoy providing a social activity that will build your child's confidence.
For the past 10 years i have also coached adults. I particulary enjoying coaching adult beginners and intermediates and see their growth to the next level.
My hobby is acting (Two and a Half Men, Fresh Off the Boat, How I Met Your Mother...Jimmy Kimmel Live) as well as magic...my son thinks I am a pretty good magician.
When i garduated from Georgetown Day HS I got a call while in college asking if i would come back and coach the boys and girls tennis team, which i happily did. From then i continued to teach. Even after getting my MFA in Theatre i contnued to teach because i love it so much.
Ranked junior player, in state of Maryland. Trained at: The Don Budge tennis academy in Reisterstown, MD, Frank Brennan Tennis Academy with Lele Farood(Womens tennis coach Stanford University) in Princeton, New Jersey, Four Star Tennis Academy in Alexandria, VA and taught at the Julian Krinsky Tennis Camp at Haverford College.

Every person i teach has different needs and they all have their ownlevel of abilities. So i dont teach the same method to every student. Instead i am able to teach and customize the best method and approach to what that specific student needs in order to improve quicker.I always try to relate well with my students and make the lessons both engaging & fun. My focus is on fun games with the kids, drills & techniques tailored for the students individual needs. I also work on tactics and core fundamentals that leads to consistent play.
I have worked with 5 year olds to senior citizens. Every age has a unique opportunity to learn and grow and love the game of tennis.
Make sure the teacher has experience working with your type of student whether beginner, intermediate or advanced. And age group as well.I know tevcahers are fond of charging alot of money but I think you can get a good lesson for under 70 dollars. Also chemsitry is important, so talk on the phone to make sure that the teacher can deliver on what you want.
One of my HS students i coached made the city wide palyoffs and was up against a more skilled opponent. But i noticed that after 3 or 4 shots the opponent would miss the ball and go for too much. So i told my player to play steady don't go for any quick shots make sure you get the ball over the net at least five times. And sure enough my player ended up winning the match because he had less unforced errors.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is your approach? Are you mostly technique based,or do you also play alot of fun games on the court? How long before i will be ale to hit the ball consistently and play a real game. How many lessons do you think i need to feel comfortable playing with my friends?

Jim has a love for the game and it comes through in his teaching.
Jim is patient, easygoing and makes the the game fun - especially because I am beginner, I needed someone to teach me the basics...he totally respected my drive to learn something new with his patience and teaching skills.
Jim is so fun and has a great way of explaining the moves. A great tip was when he told the kids that a serve in tennis is just like throwing a ball. He is the best!
Jim is a wonderful, patient and fun tennis instructor. He's a dedicated teacher who truly teaches technique and strategy. Great with kids and adults. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn tennis or simply brush up on skills.
My kids have a blast taking lessons with Coach Jim. He's super fun and engaging...and the kids are always looking forward to their next lesson. He really knows the game and how to teach the kids all the fundamentals of tennis.
