About Christopher

As a teacher, I realize that every student is unique and has their own voice as a musician. I strive to enable the discovery of their own voice while teaching essential skills and techniques specific to the trombone.

Christopher Bassett is the Bass Trombonist of the Jacksonville Symphony and the Santa Fe Opera. He has performed as a substitute with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, the Boston Pops, Indianapolis Symphony, Richmond Symphony, and Vermont Symphony Orchestras. In addition to these professional ensembles, he was a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center in 2016.

Mr. Bassett received his Bachelor of Music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he studied with James Markey. He later pursued graduate work there additionally studying with Norman Bolter, Stephen Lange, Toby Oft, and Mike Roylance.

Prior to his appointment in both the Jacksonville Symphony and the Santa Fe Opera, he won grand prizes in the 2017 Zellmer Trombone Competition, the International Trombone Association’s 2017 Edward Kleinhammer Competition, and the 2016 American Trombone Workshop Solo Competition. A committed educator, he maintains a private studio and serves as a low brass clinician in Jacksonville, Florida, and has given masterclasses across the United States.
