About
The Violin Improvisation Studio:
A violin improv studio for Creation Theory—from simple chromatic logic to virtuosic freedom and advanced soloing.
If you love the violin and want the freedom to improvise cleanly in any musical style, this is the place for you. My teaching focuses on helping classical players, traditional fiddlers, and jazz violinists understand the foundational concepts of improvisation to create their own spontaneous lines and ideas.
Together, we look at music the way the greats thought, using powerful, real-time tools like the Barry Harris Creation Theory, pivots, half-step rules, and the chromatic bebop scale to unlock the fingerboard. Instead of getting lost in complicated patterns, you will learn to look at a chord progression—from the blues to "Rhythm Changes"—and know exactly what to play to express your own creativity.
We also look at the physical mechanics of the violin itself, balancing soloing with rhythm violin and techniques like the chop so you are fully equipped for any musical situation. Let's skip the guesswork, build your technique, and get straight to making music.
