About Paul

I am a conservatory trained violinist and very experienced (30 years) teaching students of various age groups and backgrounds. I pride myself on clear, constructive guidance. My (younger) students consistently place top honors in Solo and Ensemble, All State Orchestra, ILMEA.

Helping people discover the joy of having music in their lives. Learning the craft of violin and viola playing. Hope to soon offer instruction for student ensembles both youth (string quartet) as well as coaching for adult age ensembles.

At first I was usually asked to give lessons based on my performance background, later as my interest grew I sought out different approaches and styles of music to teach. I have also worked with several teaching platforms including recording video lessons and instruction on Skype.

Bachelor degree in performance, education background covering 25 years. References can be supplied upon request.

About the lesson

For beginners regardless of age, exercises, an understanding of certain apps related to tuning and time keeping are explained. In addition to a general understanding of the instrument I do incorporate a good system for learning to read music notation. For those with some playing experience, exercises and pieces designed to develop technique and confidence are studied.

My school age students typically place high grades in orchestra, and top honors in All State, ILMEA, Solo and Ensemble.

Teach all styles and specialize in technical application. Reading music notation and rudiments of music theory are also taught. My students range in age from 4-84.

Approach the lesson with an open mind, and be prepared to ask questions. Follow the instructors advice! :)

Student recitals are always beneficial I like to have at least two a year. What's fun is to see the progress and instances where a beginner to the instrument can (within a year or so) share their playing ability with others.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The instructor should check to see that the student has the best equipment possible. Also determining if music theory is important to the student is something that should be discussed.

We found Paul's name through the Music Shoppe website and decided to make an appointment with him. It has now been almost 17 months and my daughter and I could not be happier. Paul is able to teacher my daughter in a way that makes her feel confident and willing to ask questions. His prices are reasonable and he is easy to work with. At times we have had to miss a lesson, he has offered hours that he has open to make up the missed lesson. I recently received an email from my daughter's orchestra teacher expressing how well she is doing. I have to give all the credit to Paul. The way he teaches, his willingness to answer our questions, and make suggestions to help with practice at home have all turned my daughter's experience with her violin from a chore to a source of enjoyment for her.
