About Lori

15+ years as a SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER :)

I have been in the education field for over 15 years and have worked with so many incredible students throughout my career. I was the Teacher of the Year in 2011 for my school. My teaching background includes Elementary School, High School, and adults (into their 70's). I have experience in teaching every subject for every grade from K-12, including Sign Language. I absolutely love working with Special Needs students/individuals of all ages/ability levels (K - adults), as well as K-5 students who are in general education classroom settings.

I have been a tutor for the past 20 years throughout Broward County in a multitude of subject areas. I have worked with all ability levels ranging from students who were 3 months old (cognitively) to students who were able to complete schoolwork at and above their grade levels, etc.

I am tech-savvy and am trained in numerous computer programs/systems/communication devices etc. I was also a Supervisor for an Adult Day Training Program for 2.5 years and had the opportunity to work with adults from 22 - 74 years old.

In my free time, I'm an avid Special Olympics Volunteer and have been for 28+ years (and counting)!

**For more than 20 years now, I have also been a VOLLEYBALL COACH AND VB TRAINER. I found a love for the sport when I was young and now have over 34 years of experience as an athlete/vb player and more than 15 years as a volleyball coach. From volleyball camps to high school Varsity teams and Elite club teams to a local college team, I have been lucky to coach athletes of all ages and skill levels. I am looking forward to working with you on your skills and goals as a volleyball player!

I absolutely love helping others and seeing how happy individuals become as they gain confidence with their skills during the tutoring/lesson processes. I can't wait to help you with your aspirations.

I have always enjoyed learning and gaining new skills. I had some incredible teachers and coaches growing up, and I always had a drive to help others. Anything that I learned I wanted to pass it along to my friends, family, and others. During my freshman year of high school, I started volunteering for Special Olympics...and that was the beginning of wanting to be a teacher and coach. The more lives I was able to be a part of, the better. I'm thankful for all of the teaching, tutoring, and coaching opportunities in my life and am looking forward to more.

I have 15+ years of experience as a Special Education teacher, and 20+ years as a tutor for general education and special education for students and adults of all ages and ability levels. I have 17+ years of experience as a volleyball coach and 34+ years as an athlete who played (& still plays the sport).

About the lesson

The first thing I like to do when working with a new student or athlete is a get to know them, their learning styles, and what motivates them to learn.

I have worked with students, student-athletes, and adults of all ages and ability levels. Special education, general education, and everyone in between. I have also worked with students who were deaf, blind, hard of hearing, non-ambulatory, non-verbal, gifted, autistic, had learning disabilities, dyslexia, behavioral, and had ADHD, etc.

I would say to do your research and find someone who is willing to work with you and the strengths you already have, as well as the skills you want to increase. Look for someone who adjusts their teaching styles to your specific learning styles and takes the time to make sure you are gaining the skills you desire as sessions continue. Find someone who is going to push you but also have some fun as you learn.

One of my former student-athlete's reached out to me to let me know that he appreciated what he learned when I was his teacher and coach. It's so nice to hear from my former students and student-athletes, and get updated on how they are doing after graduating.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students/individuals should think about what they want as their end result, the best ways that they learn (visually, auditory, tactile/kinesthetically, reading/writing, etc.), and what amount of time they are willing to dedicate to themselves to gain the skills they seek. Students/individuals should be upfront and honest with their teachers/tutors and coaches so that they can provide the best opportunities for success. :)

Typically, my pricing system averages between $65-$85 for an individual per hour/lesson. Due to Covid-19, and the effect it has had across the nation...I've modified my prices. My ultimate goal is to always help others... :)
